Within a Man’s Heart is the first book I’ve read by Tom Winton, but it won’t be the last. I’d been wanting to read his work for a while but was afraid to do so. I had heard through the literary grapevine that his novels were emotionally intensive and often included sad or heartbreaking elements. So, you can imagine how timid I was when I read the blurb for this one. After all, this author wrote about my biggest fear—losing a spouse. I cannot imagine surviving the overwhelming pain which accompanies that particular loss. As expected, I felt Christian’s grief immensely. I reached for the Kleenex more than once. But guess what? To my surprise and delight, it made the rest of the story all the sweeter. The fact that he loved his wife wholeheartedly and held her memory in such high esteem made me fall in love with this hero. I found myself pulling for him, wanting him to experience romance and passion with Gina. To fall in love again and have a second chance at happiness.

I can’t sing Tom Winton’s praises loud enough. The man has definitely earned his stripes as a romance writer. Before I go, I should mention that this emotionally-charged story was artfully woven together with vivid atmospheric and scenic descriptions. I felt as though I was accompanying Chris (Christian) on his journey. All of my senses were engaged. It was as if I was experiencing all the beauty of New Hampshire firsthand. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of romance. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to download more of this author's work.

I'm not normally a voracious reader of romance and I'm not sure I've ever read one written from the male's perspective. So why did I read "Within a Man's Heart"? Good question. I'd been hearing good things about not only the book but the author and thought...why not give it a read. I'm so glad that I did. Mr. Winton's writing is honest and straight forward, filled with insight and compassion. His characters have dimension...and I now want to move to the mountains of New Hampshire thanks to his descriptions of the scenery and lifestyle. Thanks, Mr. Winton, you have definitely made my A-List of authors to follow.

This is my first book by Tom Winton and I am hooked. Within a Man's Heart is a powerful love story. Christian Crews lost his wife Elyse to a brain tumor four years ago. He can't let her go. The memories, the love, the happiness, how can it all be over in so short a time? As he's reading John Steinbeck's book Travels with Charley, he finds page 23 turned down. It's talking about the White Mountains. When he looks at his road map, there is a highlighted route to New Hampshire. Chris decides to move there and see what happens. Little does he realize his life is about to change again. But can he let go of his love for his dead wife to embrace to love of another woman, Gina?
Within a Man's Heart will pull you into the sorrow, depression, and guilt of a man who truly loved his wife and doesn't want it to be over. Will Gina hang around and wait for Chris to pull it together? You will enjoy the raw emotions Tom Winton portrays in this novel of everlasting love. I look forward to reading more books by this author!
Chris loses his wife of only thirty-five to a brain tumor. After four years, he still can't get over her and move on with his life, but he decides to leave New York for the New England area to get away from the noises and routines of city life and enjoy the quiet and peace in the country. He meets Gina in a small general store and can't help but notice her, but he battles his feelings and feels guilty because of his wife. The story is a slow, relaxing read that takes you through the countryside of New England. The author mentions a book by Thoreau titled The Maine Woods. I'm a Henry David Thoreau lover of Walden, so I ordered it. He also mentioned a book about a man traveling with his poodle by Steinback titled "Traveling with Charley," and I had to get that one, too. I've traveled a lot with my cocker spaniel, and I'm a dog lover so I had to have it. This book sort of reminded me of the author's latest book as far as the theme about not being able to get over a dead wife, the theme about the heartache and pain involved and how the saying that time heals all wounds really isn't true. As his book says, time numbs, but some things never really heal. I enjoyed the read. This one is shorter than the other one and a quick, easy read if you like short books for a busy schedule. I have read this author before and will read him again.
